I've implemented a system to ensure that if someone decides to gift an item from the list, they can mark it as "planned to give." Once an item is marked as planned, it won't be visible to others, preventing any inadvertent duplicates or last-minute coordination issues. I won't have access to see which items have been marked as planned, preserving the element of surprise for me as well.
